The
Jeremy J. Smith Soloist Series |
The Jeremy J. Smith Soloist Series offers exceptional flexibility to the solo marimba artist. These mallets are light to medium weight, yet produce a full-bodied sound in all registers. The mallets are two-toned, producing a very soft, warm sound at low dynamic levels, while retaining the ability to cut through at louder volumes. This line is constructed of a soft, four-ply yarn. This yarn is strong, yet so soft if almost eliminates unwanted contact sound. The mallet is constructed of a standard 16-inch birch shaft, and wooden core. The wooden core is then fixed with rubber and/or foam bands depending on the hardness. The rubber and foam bands enable the mallets to produce a very soft, warm sound at low dynamic levels, while retaining the ability to cut through to the wooden core at louder volumes. Because of this, the Jeremy J. Smith Soloist Series is an exceptional mallet line with vast flexibility to suit almost any playing environment.

The Artist Series:
Subha Das
Mr. Subha Das
The Artist Series was designed and inspired by Subha Das, a free-lance percussionist in the Pittsburgh, PA area. These mallets are lighter in weight than traditional marimba mallets, and offer the player a firm attack with bite. The mallet is constructed of a standard 16-inch birch shaft and a wooden core. There are three degrees of hardness in the Artist Series: Subha Das. All mallets in this series cost $20.00 per pair and $35.00 for a set of four. Order Now!

The Series
The Cadenza Series offers resonance and body in its line of mallets. This line is constructed in much the same manner as the Soloist Series, but has more bands of rubber and foam, and more wraps of yarn. The defining characteristic of the Cadenza Series is the type of yarn. The yarn used in the Cadenza Series is terrycloth, a standard yarn that has spurs of yarn plies extending from the core string. It slightly resembles the synthetic yarn Malletech uses in its She-e Wu and Michael Burritt mallet lines. This yarn is striking both in appearance and sound production. It creates warm contacts and resonant tones in all ranges.

The Series
The Smitty's Music Publishing Ensemble Series is meant just for that: ensemble playing. The yarn used in this series is stronger, heavier, and thicker. This results in a mallet that lasts longer, has more weight in it, and provides solid tone. These mallets work well in the ensemble setting because the extra weight of the yarn makes for a heavier mallet which produces tones that will carry better. Also, the stronger yarn makes the mallet last long through rehearsals and individual practice. These mallets are also a good set of practice mallets; they help to build chops and will last.

XYLOPHONE MALLETS
The Wrapped Xylo
Series
The Wrapped Xylo Series is the newest addition to the Smitty's Music Publishing mallet lines. These mallets are designed for the xylophone parts in which traditional mallets would sound simply too piercing, or "in your face." The Wrapped Xylo Series offers players the ability to play smooth, connected roll passages with ease, and creates a warm sound on the xylophone.
